Theatres of Dreams is a football podcast that started as a rant about the Glazer ownership of Manchester United by Rod Maxwell with Tom Jolley and is now a much wider chat about football in general. Each Wednesday Erin Beau Carroll and Harry Merrell join Rod for a chat about football in general and MUFC, MCFC and Alty FC in particular. Welcome to another engrossing episode of the Theatre of Dreams Podcast. In this episode, Tom Jolly, Rod Maxwell, and Jamie McKeague play football transfer Top Trumps as they come up with their top 3 best, worst, ugliest and most controversial football transfers.
Robin van Persie's move from Arsenal to Manchester United, Thierry Henry's transfer to Arsenal, Luis Suarez's move from Ajax to Liverpool, and Eric Cantona's shift from Leeds to Man United are just a taste of what's in store.
Delving into football history, we also review less obvious greats like Kenny Douglas' risky yet impactful transfer to Liverpool. On the flipside, we discuss regrettable moves such as Romelu Lukaku’s return to Chelsea, and the dismal performance of Danny Drinkwater after moving from Leicester to Chelsea.
Join the debate as this episode dissects some of the worst signings ever including Alexi Sanchez, Eden Hazard, and Paul Pogba's return to Manchester United. The debate thickens as Tom, Jamie, and Rod's opinion diverge on the worst transfer — Coutinho's move to Barcelona or Neymar's audacious switch to PSG?
Finally, this episode of ushers in a critical look at 'ugly' signings such as Antoine Griezmann's underwhelming tenure at Barcelona and Cristiano Ronaldo's controversial return to Manchester United. From dissecting the hostile fallout of Luis Figo's move from Barcelona to Real Madrid, to in-depth critiques of Michael Owen's career; this episode is a definitive listen for any football enthusiast.
